From New York to Beijing, and everything in between. Marni’s 2018 Fall collection was an odyssey of culture; dreamlike in its strange miscellany.
Described best simply as surreal, designer Francesco Risso insisted every outfit start at the bottom, with the shoes. Chunky and childlike, they were shoes made to walk on adventures around the world.
The sizing was deliberately out of whack, with oversized sweaters hanging over baggy, thick tartan pants. Warmth by any means was the goal, creating a sense of the Victorian urchin dressed in a much larger man’s jacket.
Marni’s adventure was far from safe, and bitingly original. There’s plenty of inspiration left in Men’s fashion yet.
